you're second nature
you make everything so easy
natural as breath in my lungs
you make everything simple
a straightforward line, point a to point b
you nimbly pick apart my tangled thoughts
uncomplicate the equation of me
you don’t pressure
don’t squeeze and yet
coax out the purest essence of my being
extracting the golden liquid
like nectar of freesia
our conversations bubble golden
spilling over, filling us with light
rivulets run iridescent, seep into my bones
melting the ice around my ribcage
dissolving the cage encasing my heart
the lines around me are blurred
distorted and disturbed
cracking in places, missing in some
weakened through the actions of repeated intruders
you simply wait by the boundaries
even though they’re fragmented and broken
you don’t rattle the gates
and so, they willingly open
when i see you i
immediately lose all pretense
the mask slips off my face
walls unguarded, no need for defense
our time is a gift
every moment in your presence
you make me understand why
the “now” is called the present
i feel drunk when i’m with you
the laughs uncontrolled, untamed like wildebeest
you prod and you poke
not to draw blood, but to draw
my lips curving into a beam
i complain and i banter
i’m stubborn, and i tease
i say you bring out the worst in me
and yet despite all
the version of myself when i’m with you
is the person i’d love to always be
